The Hearst Foundation, Inc., was founded in 1945 by newspaper publisher and philanthropist William Randolph Hearst. The charitable goals of the foundation reflect Hearst’s philanthropic interests – education, health, social service and culture.
Hearst acquired the San Francisco Examiner when he was 23. He then acquired the New York Morning Journal in 1895, launched the New York Evening Journal in 1896 and went on to build a national chain of newspapers, eventually adding the Chicago Examiner, the Boston American, and Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar magazines. His life inspired the Orson Welles film Citizen Kane.
The William Randolph Hearst Foundation Scholarship is an endowed scholarship fund, which provides need-based assistance to students enrolled in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
