Sigma Alpha Iota Patroness Chapter

Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity was established in 1903 to promote interaction on college and university campuses among women who share a commitment to music. In 2016, there were 226 active collegiate chapters of SAI throughout the United States encouraging their members to serve as leaders in music creation, performance and scholarship.

The Sigma Gamma Chapter of SAI was installed at The University of Tulsa on April 23, 1924, and for many years, this chapter has enjoyed support from the SAI Patronesses in the Tulsa area. Patroness membership is reserved for women who support the arts in the community and are invited to join SAI by a collegiate or alumnae chapter, and the Tulsa Patroness Chapter was founded in 1959.

Members of the Sigma Alpha Iota Patroness Chapter of Tulsa established a scholarship endowment fund in 1974 to provide music scholarships for students in the collegiate chapter of SAI at TU, and the Patronesses have continued to make gifts to fortify the scholarship fund for many years. In 2017, the SAI Patroness Chapter of Tulsa executed a new agreement with The University of Tulsa to formalize the parameters of this scholarship program and to officially name the fund as the Sigma Alpha Iota Patronesses’ Scholarship for Music Endowment Fund.

The University of Tulsa is deeply grateful for this important endowed scholarship program that will continue to foster opportunity for deserving music students at The University of Tulsa for generations to come.
