Nancy Shelton was an extraordinarily devoted TU alumna. She earned three degrees at The University of Tulsa (BS ’96, MIS; MBA ’98; MS ’02), and she returned to work at her alma mater for many years. Even after she retired from her full-time job, she continued to work in a part-time position at the university she loved.
Shelton said that The University of Tulsa and her parents were the most significant influences in her life, and both helped inspire her affinity for education. This love of learning was fostered at an early age by her parents, Marilyn and Russell Shelton, who later encouraged her to pursue her higher education goals time and again.
Nancy’s commitment to education also inspired her to become an adjunct professor at Tulsa Community College while also working as an underwriter, programmer and analyst in the insurance industry in Tulsa (for 25 years).
In 2006, her heart led her back to The University of Tulsa, where she retired as Web Administrator for the Collins College of Business in 2018, and she immediately transitioned to the job of Technology Coordinator for the Master of Energy Business program at TU, a part-time position.
In an effort to show gratitude to the university that meant so much to her life, Nancy Shelton committed an estate gift to The University of Tulsa in 2019, which will help others pursue their goals in the Collins College of Business for generations to come. The Nancy Lynn Shelton Scholarship Endowment Fund for the Collins College of Business will provide assistance to students majoring in accounting or computer information systems.
Nancy passed away in 2021, but her love of The University of Tulsa will be sustained by the fortunate students who will be known as Nancy Lynn Shelton Business Scholars for many years to come. The TU family is deeply grateful to this loyal alumna, whose generosity will create important opportunities for the students following in her footsteps at TU toward fulfilling and successful careers in business.
