Lorene Owen

Lorene Owen thoughtfully planned to benefit others through estate gifts, and one of those gifts funded a scholarship in her name for students at The University of Tulsa. Lorene passed away in 2008 at the age of 91, and her caring legacy is sustained by the students who continue to benefit from this important endowed scholarship fund.

Mrs. Owen was born in Oklahoma in 1916, and she lived much of her life in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, before moving to Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, Max Coit Owen.

Lorene was a firm believer in higher education, making generous planned gifts to TU, to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and to Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. Berea College is a liberal arts institution focused on academically promising students with limited economic resources.

The TU community appreciates Mrs. Owen’s enduring gift, named the Lorene Owen Endowment. Her forward-looking generosity enables TU students in many different fields of study to pursue their degrees and reach their goals.
