Milton “Wayne” Pugh was a talented musician and longtime Tulsan who graduated from Webster High School before attending The University of Tulsa. As a young man, Wayne Pugh played the clarinet and the saxophone in a dance band, and at the age of 17, he went to work for Saied Music Company. Mr. Pugh began at the company working in instrument repair, but he rose in the ranks to ultimately become Vice President, a position he held until he passed away in 1995 at the age of 60. During his tenure at Saied Music Company, Pugh became close friends with James Saied.
In 1996, Pugh’s wife, Kay F. Pugh, established a scholarship endowment fund in memory of her husband, and other family members and friends also contributed to the fund, including Wayne’s son, Jeff Pugh, and James Saied.
The M. Wayne Pugh Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Music Education helps ensure that musically talented students at The University of Tulsa will be able to fulfill their aspirations. The fund also sustains the legacy of a talented Tulsa musician who influenced others through his music and through his career at Saied Music Company.
