James R. Schaber (BA ’59, MA ’59) graduated from The University of Tulsa with honors, earning two degrees in history in 1959, an undergraduate degree in May and a master’s degree in July. He went on to earn a graduate degree in history from Harvard University in 1968 and to teach history and political science at Long Beach City College in California for many years.
Mr. Schaber was a loyal TU alumnus who made more than two dozen gifts to support an array of programs and initiatives at his alma mater, including the TU Annual Fund, McFarlin Library, and the Golden Hurricane Club (now known as the Golden Hurricane Champions Fund).
He bequeathed a portion of his estate to TU to establish an endowment in memory of his beloved mother, Ella C. Schaber. Mr. Schaber said his mother’s example inspired him to pursue higher education, first as a student, and then as a teacher.
The Ella C. Schaber Memorial Endowment Fund for Environmental Engineering will sustain this family’s commitment to higher education for generations to come.
