Janet Colleen Higgins

James A. Higgins (BA ’93; JD ’99) is a proud alumnus of The University of Tulsa, who is committed to supporting opportunity for college students, especially those at his alma mater. Higgins has wonderful memories of his experiences at TU, where he excelled in his studies and established enduring friendships through his campus activities, including Sigma Chi Fraternity.

While pursuing his law degree, James worked on the Tulsa Law Review, and he launched a successful career after graduation. Higgins began his career defending hospitals, physicians and nurses from medical malpractice claims before moving on to work as Counsel for the ConocoPhillips Legal Department, and he now serves as a participating member at Frederic Dorwart Lawyers, LLP, where he focuses on banking law and litigation, securities litigation and business litigation.

The University of Tulsa is a family tradition for Higgins because his father, the late Chad M. Higgins, also graduated from TU after studying broadcast journalism and announcing TU sporting events on the student-run KWGS radio station. James’ older brother, Steve Higgins, and sister-in-law, Linda Strong, are also proud TU alumni.

James’ mother, the late Janet Higgins, made her career in nursing, and she was a dedicated charge nurse at St. Francis Hospital for more than 20 years. Janet Higgins was admired by her patients and colleagues for her kind and caring character and commitment to her job. James Higgins wished to honor his mother and her extraordinary career in nursing by establishing an endowed scholarship for nursing students at TU, and he did so in 2018. The Janet Colleen Higgins Nursing Scholarship Endowment Fund will support deserving nursing students at TU for generations to come.

The TU family is grateful for this important scholarship fund, which pays tribute to a dedicated healthcare professional while extending the philanthropic legacy of a devoted TU alumnus.
