First National Bank & Trust of Okmulgee

Loyalty to The University of Tulsa is a portable virtue, and many of TU’s most steadfast supporters contribute from beyond the Tulsa city limits. One such alumnus is Nevyle R. Cable (BS ’77). This TU football letterman is president and CEO of First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee. Under his leadership, the bank carries on its tradition of supporting worthy organizations and causes in Oklahoma. Among these are contributions to several vital TU programs and projects including the Case Athletic Complex, the renovation of H.A. Chapman Stadium, the Golden Hurricane Club, TU football and men’s basketball.

The First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee also joined the esteemed 1930 Society of the Golden Hurricane Club in 2013, generously committing financial support to TU’s deserving student-athletes. In 2009, the Board of Directors of First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee extended its support of academic and athletic excellence at TU by establishing new football scholarships through the First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee Scholarship Endowment Fund for Football. Annually distributed earnings of this endowment provide scholarships to entering freshmen in TU’s football program. Recipients are known as First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee Football Scholars and are eligible to receive the award during each of their four continuous years of undergraduate study, provided they continue to participate in TU’s football program and maintain academic requirements.

Cable and his wife, Carol, are longtime personal TU supporters. He actively supports TU advancement as a member of the Friends of Finance organization and the Executive Advisory Board in the Collins College of Business.

As pioneer Oklahoma institutions, First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee (founded 1917) and TU share many values – including a focus on fundamentals and personalized service. Thanks to the strong financial base laid by its founding fathers, the bank has remained successful through economically challenging times in Oklahoma including the Great Depression and the oil industry collapse of the 1980s. TU deeply values the contributions of First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee as well as the relationship between the two institutions as partners in Oklahoma’s prosperity. First National Bank’s support of freshman football players helps TU attract and support young people who are not only promising athletes but also focused scholars and dedicated members of the community.
