J. Gordon Allen, who graduated summa cum laude from TU in 1933 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, went on to a distinguished career as an executive with Phillips Petroleum Company. He started with the company as a chemist and advanced through the ranks, retiring as an international planning and operations analyst.
Mr. Allen was a devoted alumnus and was generous with his service to his alma mater. He served as co-chair of the 50th reunion of his graduating class from TU, and at the time of his death, he was serving as secretary of the 50 Years or More Club at TU.
This memorial scholarship, designated for TU students majoring in physics, chemistry, or petroleum engineering, was established by Mr. Allen’s sons and daughter: John G. Allen, David C. Allen, and Patricia Allen Upham. First preference for the scholarship is given to Oklahoma residents, with additional preference given to African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students.
