Family of Jack and Barbara Marshall

Jack Marshall graduated from The University of Tulsa in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering. He had attended TU on the G.I. Bill after serving as a pilot trainer in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

While pursuing his degree, Jack served on the Student Council and earned academic honors as a member of Phi Gamma Kappa and Pi Epsilon Tau. He also worked part time at the Stanolind Chemical Research Laboratory.

After graduating from TU, Jack built a long and distinguished career in petroleum engineering. He spent most of his professional life working for Conoco, where his assignments included a four-year stint in Libya managing the company’s Oasis Oil venture. He ultimately served as Conoco’s executive vice president for international exploration and production and as a member of the board of directors before retiring in 1984. That same year, TU recognized Jack’s outstanding career achievements with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

Jack met his wife, Barbara Ruth “Bobby” Schroeder, in 1941 while working in Great Bend, Kansas. The couple married in 1943 and remained together until Jack’s death in 2015 at age 96. They raised two children, Michael Clay Marshall and Roberta Faye Marshall, instilling in them their respect for learning and self-reliance.

The Marshalls generously supported several TU programs and units, including the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the McDougall School of Petroleum Engineering, and the advertising program.

Jack deeply valued the quality education he received at TU and remained an avid reader and thinker throughout his life; he was an active member of the Montgomery [Texas] Philosophical Society.

Jack’s niece Dani G. Moore (BS ’76) and her husband, Allan D. Moore (BS ’78), also are devoted TU alumni who share her uncle’s enthusiasm for their alma mater.

In honor of his achievements, Jack’s children, his niece and her husband have committed a gift to The University of Tulsa to establish The Jack and Barbara Marshall Endowed Scholarship for the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences.
