Dr. William A. Settle served as head of the Departments of History and Political Science during his long career as a TU faculty member. He held the Jay P. Walker Professor of History Chair, and in 1977, he was selected as “Mr. Homecoming.” He considered this accolade the “ultimate honor” that was bestowed on him during his tenure at TU. His book, Jesse James Was His Name, is considered the definitive work on that legendary outlaw. The widow, friends and colleagues of Dr. Settle established the William A. Settle Student Award in History to honor his memory and TU legacy.
