W. Thomas Coffman graduated from The University of Tulsa (BS ’63, Business Administration) and The University of Tulsa College of Law (JD ’66). After an 11-year career in the US Army Reserve and in the US Navy Reserve as a Lt. Commander JAGC, he went on to a distinguished career as a Tulsa attorney with particular expertise in trusts and estates. He began his career at Gable and Gotwals of Tulsa before co-founding Johnson, Jones, Dornblaser, Coffman and Shorb in 1994.
Mr. Coffman was a loyal TU alumnus who, along with his wife, Sharon D. Coffman (BS ’66, Medical Technology), strengthened the university’s academics and athletics through their support of the College of Law, the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge (TURC), the Lettermen’s Association, the Golden Hurricane Club, and many other endeavors.
He also gave generously of his time and leadership talent, serving as President of the TU Alumni Association (1994-95), President of the TU Law Alumni Board (2004-06) and co-founder of the Friends of TU Law, a donor group dedicated to providing multi-year support to the College of Law’s Annual Fund. He was equally generous in his other community and professional roles, serving as President of the Tulsa County Bar Association and as President of Kiwanis Club of Tulsa.
Tom Coffman passed away on December 26, 2007, at the age of 67. His friends and colleagues honored his memory by establishing the W. Thomas Coffman Scholarship in Law Endowment Fund.
