Terry Hutton majored in accounting at TU and graduated with honors in 1979. He maintained a perfect 4.0 during his college career and was honored as the Outstanding Business School Graduate and with membership in the Phi Gamma Kappa Accounting Honor Society and Mortar Board. He went on to earn a master’s degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University and went to work for the firm Deloitte Haskins & Sells. Terry and his wife, Wilda, had three children: daughter JoElla and sons Jarrett and Johnathan. Terry died in 1988 at the age of 30.

Terry’s father, Dr. Clifford Hutton, served TU for more than 35 years. His titles included Trustees’ Professor of Accounting, Vice President of Student Affairs, and Dean of the College of Business Administration (now the Collins College of Business). He retired in June 1992 and died in 2004 at the age of 76.

In memory of Terry and his achievements, his family and friends elected to help other potentially outstanding TU undergraduates by establishing the Terry J. Hutton Memorial Scholarship Fund. The endowment earnings provide scholarships to academically superior accounting majors, selected by the Dean of the Collins College of Business.
