Family and Friends of Sandra L. West

Sandra L. “Sandy” (Pugh) West and Robert A. “Bob” West (BS ’61, Marketing) met as undergraduate students at The University of Tulsa and married soon after. They shared a long marriage and loving partnership until Sandy passed away in 2007 following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

As active volunteers and supporters, Bob and Sandy shared a commitment to strengthening TU as members of the Circle Society, the President’s Council, the Golden Hurricane Club, the TU Letterwinners Association, and the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge (TURC). They generously supported the TU Annual Fund, and their imprint can be found on major campus facilities, including the Donald W. Reynolds Center and the Case Athletic Complex at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

They shared a commitment to service, donating their time and talents to the University’s centennial celebration, alumni activities, athletic events, and much more. Sandy’s leadership as president of The University of Tulsa Alumni Association contributed tremendously to raising the profile of TU alumni in Tulsa and beyond. Bob provided leadership as a member of the University’s Board of Trustees. Their son, Phillip West (BS ’87), and daughter-in-law, Alisha West (BA ’88), are also members of the TU alumni family.

In 2008, family members and friends of Sandy West chose to establish a memorial tribute to her leadership and service at The University of Tulsa in the form of a permanently endowed fund, which is known as the Sandra L. West Memorial Plaza Endowment Fund. This endowed fund, anchored by a leadership gift from then-University Trustee Keith E. Bailey and his wife, Pat, was used to create and maintain the Sandra L. West Memorial Plaza located between Lorton Hall and Tyrrell Hall on TU’s campus.
