The Parke A. Dickey Endowment Fund for Geosciences is a permanent endowment generously established through gifts from colleagues and friends in memory of Dr. Parke A. Dickey.
Dr. Parke A. Dickey headed The University of Tulsa’s Earth Sciences Department for 14 years (1961-75). He led the development of a research and teaching curriculum that culminated in the department’s accreditation at the doctoral program level.
Prior to joining the TU faculty, he mapped a large area of the Magdalena River Valley in Colombia and developed a technique for electrical well-logging not previously used in the United States. In 1946, he moved to Tulsa to organize a geological research group for Esso Standard Oil, Co., now Exxon. Dr. Dickey retired in 1975, but he continued to teach in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Society of Petroleum Engineers have honored his writings about the history of geology and geographical exploration.
Dr. Dickey had attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and earned his doctorate in geology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Annual earnings of the Parke A. Dickey Geosciences Fund support the graduate program in geosciences, including support of research projects and scholarships.
