After achieving success in both academics and athletics at TU, Neal Sweeney went on to a rewarding career that included playing for the Denver Broncos in the NFL and then becoming a successful businessman, most recently serving as president and CEO of Retail Fuels Marketing.
Neal Sweeney was a dedicated alumnus of The University of Tulsa, who, with his wife, Janis Inhofe Sweeney (BA ’68, Psychology), strengthened both athletics and academics through their support of the Golden Hurricane Club, the TU Lettermen’s Association, the TU Annual Fund, the TU Alumni Association and other initiatives, while attending numerous athletic competitions and events as avid fans through the years.
Neal Sweeney also demonstrated his great love of TU Athletics by donating his time and leadership talent while serving on the board of the Golden Hurricane Club and by participating in the TU Lettermen’s Association, groups dedicated to bolstering TU’s athletics programs through moral and financial support.
Jan Sweeney, Bob Phillips, Jr., and other family members, colleagues and friends of Neal Sweeney have chosen to honor his memory and legacy by creating a permanent source of support for student-athletes at The University of Tulsa. These friends and colleagues have generously contributed gifts to The University of Tulsa for the purpose of establishing a scholarship endowment fund, which may receive additional funding from others at any time and which shall be formally recognized as the Neal R. Sweeney Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund.
