Family and Friends of Michael Davis

Generous gifts from colleagues, friends and family members established the Michael Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of the respected and experienced administrator, who served as interim president of The University of Tulsa in 1989, following the death of President J. Paschal Twyman.

Dr. Michael W. Davis began his career at TU in 1969 as an assistant professor. He became chairman of the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Department, an area of study that had been the focus of his undergraduate and master’s work at the University of Houston. He also held a doctorate in higher education from the University of Oklahoma. Davis served as assistant dean of the College of Education before advancing into the roles of assistant provost for academic affairs, associate vice president, and vice president of administration. In addition to his teaching and administrative functions, Davis served as TU’s track coach for several years.

Dr. Davis passed away in 1990 at the age of 46. Colleagues honored him and his distinguished TU career posthumously with the J. Paschal Twyman Outstanding Service Award. His namesake scholarship fund supports undergraduate students in any area of study at TU.
