Family and Friends of David L. Moss

The University of Tulsa alumnus David L. Moss (BS ’70, JD ’73) served as Tulsa County’s district attorney for more than 14 years before succumbing to a heart attack at age 47. Moss was known as a humble and devout man, who was honest, hardworking and efficient, and he was respected and liked by those who worked with him.

Just one year after graduating from The University of Tulsa College of Law, former district attorney S. M. “Buddy” Fallis hired Moss as an assistant district attorney. Seven years later, Moss was appointed district attorney at the age of 31. A crime fighter with a strong record in a long string of high-profile cases, he had a reputation for displaying fairness and honesty in his dealings with the defendants he prosecuted, according to a tribute in the Tulsa World.

Moss came to TU on a football scholarship after graduating from high school in Odessa, Texas. His high school yearbook shows he was already creating his destiny – 1964 Best Citizen, a member of the law club and a star on the football team.

After Moss died suddenly in his east Tulsa home in 1995, Nick (BS ’70) and Barbara (BS ’70) Allen established the David Moss Scholarship for Athletics in his memory, and many other friends and family members gave to support this tribute, as well.

Nick and David had been teammates on the TU football team. Nick earned a bachelor of science degree in management. He was named a TU Distinguished Alumnus in 2004 and a Collins College of Business Outstanding Alumnus in 2001. Barbara held a bachelor’s degree in management information systems and was a TU employee before serving on the TU Board of Trustees (2002-2018), and on the boards of the TU Alumni Association and the Golden Hurricane Club. She passed away in October of 2019.
