Elizabeth E. (Haines) Blixt is a talented musician, and her love of music drove her involvement in campus activities when she was a student at The University of Tulsa. She was a music major and a member of the TU Orchestra, the TU Marching Band, and the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra (as a student member). She was elected president of Tau Beta Psi (the honorary band sorority), and she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and the Lantern Honorary Scholastic Society.
Elizabeth Blixt was in the TU orchestra and band when they were directed by Roger Fenn, a beloved professor who served in TU’s music department for 17 years (1939-1956). Many years later, Elizabeth supported the Roger P. Fenn Memorial Scholarship in Instrumental Music Endowment Fund to help honor his memory and legacy.
When she was a TU student, Elizabeth met her future husband, Clarence H. Blixt, and their names appeared in the Collegian in May of 1951 as part of the newspaper’s Hitchin’ Post section, where it was announced that they were engaged to be married.
The couple eventually settled in California, where Elizabeth worked for the Escalon Unified School District for many years before retiring. After a long and fulfilling marriage, Clarence Blixt passed away in 2017.
In 2000, Elizabeth established a planned gift to fortify her support of the Roger P. Fenn Memorial Scholarship in Instrumental Music Endowment Fund. The University of Tulsa will always be grateful to Elizabeth Blixt, whose generosity will create important opportunities for talented musicians at TU for generations to come.
