The Hostel Bros Endowment

Connor P. Brady is a proud TU alumnus who majored in energy management and finance, graduating in 2016. His good friend, Thomas Schorr, also majored in energy management while minoring in international business and finance. These excellent students graduated cum laude in 2016 and went on to launch successful careers in the energy industry. Both worked as Landmen for major oil companies – Connor in Fort Worth, Texas, and Thomas in Denver, Colorado.

While grades were important to Thomas and Connor, they also wanted to be involved on campus and pursued many extracurricular activities. Thomas was in the Kappa Alpha Order, the Tulsa Energy Management Student Association (TEMSA), the Student Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, Orientation Leaders, intramural sports, Reformed University Fellowship, and he studied abroad in Brussels, Belgium.

Connor was involved in TEMSA, the Student Investment Fund, the Student Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, University Ambassadors, Orientation Leaders, intramural sports, Reformed University Fellowship, and he studied abroad in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Among their activities, the study abroad experience stood out as a life-changing event for each of them, and they decided to take steps to help make study abroad more accessible for the TU students following in their footsteps.

In 2017, Connor Brady and Thomas Schorr established The Hostel Bros. Endowed Award for Global Study to provide financial assistance to students in any major to help cover expenses related to studying abroad, including travel costs, fees, and room and board. They have encouraged their friends to add to this fund to help future TU students experience the wonders of going abroad to study.

TU alumnus Timothy E. “Tim” Witham earned a Bachelor of Science in Geosciences in 2017, and he made a gift to strengthen this important endowment fund in 2021. Like his friends, Connor and Thomas, Tim studied abroad on scholarship while attending TU, and he was deeply affected by the experience. Tim hopes his support of the endowment will provide important opportunities to TU students who wish to have the unique and life-changing experience of studying outside the U.S.

The University of Tulsa is deeply grateful to these philanthropic graduates who have made it possible for Hostel Bros. Global Scholars to enjoy remarkable study abroad experiences for generations to come.
