Samson Energy Company has a proud history of philanthropic support for educational institutions, including The University of Tulsa. The late Charles Schusterman founded Samson Resources Company in 1971, and later, Samson Investment Company. His daughter, Stacy Schusterman, became CEO of the company in 2000, and the enterprise grew to become the largest privately held oil and gas company headquartered in the United States before being sold in 2011. The Schusterman family wished to remain in the oil and gas exploration and production business after this transaction, and they formed Samson Energy Company, LLC to remain in the industry.
The Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies (formerly the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation) has been a generous partner to TU, making an inspiring gift in 2013 to establish ten presidential scholarships for students in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (formerly known as the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences). These important funds are known as The Samson Energy Presidential Scholarship Endowment Funds.
The organization also partnered with Samson Energy Company to fund Samson Plaza, a lovely pedestrian plaza that unites three engineering and science buildings on campus.
The Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies and/or Samson Energy Company have also made gifts to support the Samson Doctoral Research Grant in Geosciences; the Samson Outstanding Scholar Award; the Samson Companies Scholarship Fund; the Globalization Program; the TU Annual Fund for the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences; the Energy Management Program; the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge (TURC); the College of Law; seminars and workshops for Tulsa-area schoolteachers; Friends of Finance; the Petroleum Engineering Externship Program; the Tulsa Albert Schweitzer Fellowship Program; and the Gilcrease Museum Business Art Alliance, among other programs and initiatives.
By generously supporting The University of Tulsa, the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies and Samson Energy Company are paving the way for the next generation of talented professionals for the energy industry.
