Bonnie Kay Erickson Berg and Orville Roger Berg

Dr. Orville “Roger” Berg (BS ’60, MS ’63) and his wife, Bonnie K. Erickson Berg, are true friends of The University of Tulsa. Roger earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in geology from TU before earning his PhD from The University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.

Roger was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma, in 1933. His future wife, Bonnie K. Erickson, was born in Carthage, Missouri, in 1937, and she later moved with her family to Tulsa. Bonnie graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, where she distinguished herself academically, earning an award in a state essay-writing contest.

Bonnie married Roger in 1963. They are the parents of one daughter, also a TU graduate, Angela Kay Berg Collins. Angela earned her BS in 1993 from the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences. Angela participated as a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority during her student years. Roger also was an active participant in student activities while he attended TU, serving as the President of the Geology Club his senior year.

After Roger completed his education in Oklahoma, he and Bonnie moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where the couple continues to reside. Roger had a long and productive tenure as a geologist, most recently heading up Ber-Ex-Co Inc., a company he began running in the early 2000s. Over the course of a highly successful career, Roger utilized the leadership skills he exhibited while still a student at TU. Among other roles, Dr. Berg served as the General Chairman of the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies in the early 1990s, and he remains an active member of the Shreveport Geological Society, having served as the Second Vice President of the organization in 2014.

While they have made their home in Shreveport for most of their adult lives, Roger and Bonnie generously remember their TU ties. They support McFarlin Library, and they have contributed for many years to the Annual Funds for both the College of Engineering and Computer Science and the Henry Kendall College of Arts and Sciences.

In 2002, the Bergs created a planned gift to benefit The University of Tulsa and The University of Oklahoma. The TU community is grateful to Roger and Bonnie Berg for their generous and forward-looking support.
