Bob and Cathy Laird

For Bob and Cathy Laird, The University of Tulsa is an integral part of who they are and what they have achieved. Robert E. “Bob” Laird (BSBA ’80, Management) and Catherine J. “Cathy” Laird (BSBA ’80, Finance) made the most of their time at TU, with Bob participating on the Golden Hurricane Football Team (he holds a lifetime membership in the TU Letterwinners Association), and Cathy participating as a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. They both have warm and wonderful memories of their time at TU.

Their business studies helped them launch successful careers after graduation, and they have enjoyed being involved at TU as alumni, giving generously of their time, talent and financial resources to support TU in both academics and athletics.

The Lairds’ two children followed closely in their parents’ footsteps, matriculating to The University of Tulsa and enjoying all that the university has to offer, including extracurricular activities on campus.

Jennifer K. “Jenna” Laird (BSBA ’06, Accounting; MBA ’07) joined Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, as her mother did, and she excelled in her business studies, earning membership in several honor societies, including Mortar Board, Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi and the Scroll Honor Society. Jenna also participated in student government, and she graduated magna cum laude before earning her MBA and launching a rewarding career.

Robert A. “Rob” Laird (BSBA ’09, Finance; MBA ’11) also pursued business studies and was a member of the men’s golf team, eventually becoming a lifetime member of the TU Letterwinners Association, just like his father. Rob was a talented student who graduated cum laude when he earned his undergraduate degree in finance. He also participated in student government and went on to earn a graduate degree.

Following Rob’s graduation from TU with his MBA in 2011, the Laird family decided to show their appreciation to their alma mater by establishing two scholarship funds through the Pioneer Program life insurance initiative. The Robert Laird Men’s Golf Scholarship Endowment Fund is named after both father and son, and the Laird Family Scholarship in Business will help deserving business students enjoy the same quality education and opportunities that the Laird family members experienced.

The University of Tulsa is grateful to this True Blue TU family for their efforts to pave the way for future students at their alma mater.
