Becky and J. Markham Collins

Dr. J. Markham “Mark” Collins and his wife, Rebecca A. “Becky” Collins (MS ’87, Accounting), were longtime members of The University of Tulsa family as dedicated employees and loyal donors. The  Collinses helped to strengthen TU’s reputation and resources, especially in the area of international business studies.

Before he retired in 2017, Dr. Collins was the Edward E. and Helen T. Bartlett Foundation Professor of Business (in Finance), Coordinator of International Business Programs, and faculty director of Friends of Finance at The University of Tulsa. Awarded the prestigious Fulbright Professorship to Hungary in 2008, he was a scholar and lecturer at the Institute of Economic Science, Eszterházy Károly College. During his 38-year academic career, Mark taught professional development courses in finance – from introductory level to advanced – on four continents. As director of TU Friends of Finance, he helped lead the executive speaker series, which continues to present several top-level business speakers each academic year to an audience averaging 400. He had semester-long academic appointments at the University of Hong Kong, the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and the University of Siegen, Germany, and Eger, Hungary.

Becky launched a successful career after graduating from The University of Tulsa. In the 1990s, Becky taught at TU in the Collins College of Business. While at TU, she and Markham worked together to secure two important grants that helped launch the international business programs at TU. The goals of the grants involved developing market economics curricula in Hungary through seminars and workshops. She also had a semester-long academic appointment at the University of Auckland. She most recently served as president and CEO of Tulsa Global Alliance from 2007 until her retirement in June 2015.

The Collinses have been active in Sister City partnerships and enjoy hosting international visitors. At various times, they have both served in leadership roles in the Beihai, Zelenograd, and Amiens partnerships.

Mark and Becky Collins have generously established a planned gift through a life insurance policy to create the J. Markham Collins Endowment for the Student Investment Fund.
